I’m sitting in a college computer cluster observing a CAD (Computer Aided Design) class that my nineteen year old son, Dustin, is teaching to homeschool students. I am in awe of God’s work! This young man is living proof that home education works well.

A few of our nine children loved their workbooks and whipped through the pages assigned for each day, but the others could hardly make themselves sit still that long. The son who is teaching this class was a child full of wiggle.  I’m thrilled to see where God has taken him!

James starts out his letter with this: James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. I couldn’t get past that in my morning reading.

I was asked this question the other day, while at the pool with all seven kids. As soon as she asked it, the things I do in a day flashed before my eyes like a fast motion movie clip.

I was a bit dumbfounded and wasn’t sure what to say, so I simply said, “Yes, I stay at home.”  What I really wanted to do was list all the things I do in a day while I just stay at home.

Do you feel overwhelmed at times? This isn’t an uncommon feeling for Christians. The evil one doesn’t want us to shine for Jesus so he works hard to pull us down any way he can. I praise God for giving us a sword to fight off those wrong thoughts that come our way. The verse I use the most is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” That scripture has seen me through many challenging moments in my life.

Growing up in a Christian home school family, my father, Daniel Kihlstadius, instilled in me the importance of getting involved in the political process. He would bring me along to go drop flyers in neighborhoods, make phone calls to remind people to go vote, and take me to the Caucuses so I could learn how grassroots politics worked. He showed me how important it was to not just believe in protecting our God-given rights and freedom, but to actively fight to preserve them.

As we gear up for another election cycle there are signs that the Christian homeschooling movement is maturing within the public square. This has been very evident at the Legislature with the success last year of the bill increasing homeschooling freedom. Additionally, over the last decade several homeschool parents have become state legislators; they include Representatives Mary Kiffmeyer, Pam Myhra, Kathy Lohmer and Jim Abeler and Senators Michael Jungbauer, Sean Nienow and Dan Hall.
