KATHRYN LUTHER (Kathryn Von Bora) married Martin Luther in 1525. The reason for the marriage, in Luther's own words, was "to spite the devil." Kathryn had been a nun, but she proved to be a good wife and an admirable business woman. The home life that she provided for Luther prompted him to class "domestic life" among his three hierarchies of Christian existence, the other two being political and church life.
