Amy Carmichael (1867-1951) was born in Millisle, Count Down, Northern Ireland. In 1892 she went to Japan as the first missionary to be under the Keswick convention. In Japan, she learned the importance of cultural immersion, such as adopting native dress, ect. She later applied the things she learned in Japan to missions work in Dohnavur, India, where she was founder of a home for boys and girls.
