The Problem of Morals
The Problem of Morals
- SCHAEFFER-086.mp3_sample.mp3
Man is personal and of great value yet he is finite. He cannot generate out of himself his required answers. Morals hamstring his mind because he is both noble and cruel. There are two things that greatly trouble man: What is right? and What is wrong? Though man is small he is also greatly cruel. Morals do not exist by themselves. You cannot be impersonal and yet have true morals. If you begin with impersonal morals you end up with only sociological norms or statistical averages. You then have no place for values or right and wrong. Still man has moral motions and feels better if he does right even if he does not know why. The final failure of man is that he cannot fit into his system of no values. In Hindu pantheism and modern humanistic Theology there is no right or wrong. Why? Without a personal and infinite God you have no true values and no place to hang right and wrong. Only beginning with a personal and infinite God can lead us to true understanding of right and wrong.
