"1,000" LIKES -"Why did you start homeschooling"?
I started homeschooling when our school closed, and my kiddos would have had to ride the bus for 3 1/2 to 4 hours a day to get to another school. It has been a huge blessing to our family! I love, love, love having the kids at home with me all day, and it's fun to learn with them too.
We started homeschooling when
We started homeschooling when we discovered our 2nd grade daughter was nearly 2 years behind in reading. We figured we couldn't do much worse at home.
My husband & I decided that
My husband & I decided that homeschooling would be the best option (in so many ways) for our children. It provides so much freedom to add things to the school curriculum that most schools avoid...particularly GOD!
WHY
We started homeschooling because we wanted to be able to teach our children through a Christian worldview. It also works great for our family because my husband works a shift rotation and we can be flexible with our schedule.
why we started homeschooling
We started homeschooling when I was convicted by the Holy Spirit to homeschool. My analytical mind reviewed resources for one year before beginning in 2000. Through the years I have added so many reasons: family closeness, Christ centered, 1:1 tutor (even with 4 kids), enjoy time with my kids, freedom with schedule and curriculum. I plan on finishing the journey in 2024. My membership expires today so I hope I am the random winner. Blessings.
Why Did You Start Homeschooling??
We started because we did not want to give away hours of our daughter's day to a teacher in a classroom who couldn't possibly lover her like we do. We also wanted to be the ones who got the joy of watching her learn new things. So many other reasons, too.
Homeschooling
My wife and I started homeschooling first, for faith. So that our children will be taught about the Lord and His ways. Second, family enjoyment. Though homeschooling is often harder then expected, we get to enjoy our kids and get to know them. Third, safety and care. Why have children to let someone else raise them? Who else cares for them and looks out for their safety like we would? No one, and so we took on raising our children wholly.
We started homeschooling because...
...our daughter had some learning issues and the "professionals" said she needed one-on-one instruction. What better way to do that than to home educate her! I signed on as an "anonymous," I know; but I'm not wanting to be in the running. We've already graduated all of our kids from homeschool. Personally, I think you should give everyone who responds to this question an annual membership. It's a great way for you to know how many people read your web pages. I love your new website and visit it often! Keep up the good work.
Why we started homeschooling
I had no intentions of homeschooling and didn't know anything about it. Our first child went in for his preschool screening and they gave me a hard time for staying home and wanted to know why any of our kids were not in day care. I was expecting our 4th child at the time. Our oldest was a bit on the shy side so he was a little reluctant at first. They reminded us we were not the only ones testing and that they only had a certain amount of time slotted for each child. They made us go back for a second time to finish. They still were not pleased and wanted to schedule a home visit. I drew the line at that. I decided if that was the way they would handle things I was not going to send my child to school. I stayed up until the wee hours on the internet for many nights and prayed that I would figure something out. We'll be starting on our 8th year of homeschooling this year. Our kids seemed to have turned out just fine without ever being in day care or the public school system. The child that was a bit shy at the time pretty much doesn't stop talking now. :o)
Why we started homeschooling
I had no intentions of homeschooling our two children. Sure, I was a stay at home mom, but I wasn't a teacher. When kindergarten time came around for our oldest (now 10) we enrolled him in a terrific private Christian school. Two years later, we did the same with our youngest (now 8). I continued to stay at home, although I spent a great deal of time at the school my kids were attending. With only one income (did I mention my husband is a public school educator, 27 years of service!), we could simply not afford the private Christian school. I talked to my husband about homeschool, and he was surprisingly receptive to the idea. We thought we would "give it a try". So we brought our 2nd grader and Kindergartener home the very next day. That was over 3 years ago. We have been so blessed! Even if we won the lottery tomorrow we would not go back to the fine private school we once attended. We started homeschooling because we couldn't afford private school, but I know now that we cannot afford NOT to homeschool. The rewards are too sweet!
Why Did You Start Homeschooling?
We started homeschooling from the beginning because we wanted our children to be able to learn at their own pace (faster or slower) using methods that best fit their learning styles and to spend more time on things that were most important and/or most interesting to them. We also enjoy teaching and interacting with our children all the time, so it felt like a natural fit.
Why I homeschool
I started with my oldest for Kindergarten because I felt she would get lost in the transition to school and have an extremely hard time with our districts all day-every other day schedule. It has been great, and I am happy that her parents get to stay her primary influence.
Why did you start homeschooling?
We chose to homeschool our kids as they finished at the private elementary school. Sending them to the public school did not feel right to us. I do some volunteer work with youth in our community and I hear a lot about what's going on at school and the things the kids are exposed to. Why would we choose to steep our children in that environment for 8 hours a day? No thanks!

Gonna try this again - guess I wasn't logged in the last time!

Why Did you start homeschooling?
We started homeschooling because we felt the Lord leading us to it. We started our daughter from the very beginning and haven't looked back! We are homeschooling our son and are so thankful for the opportunity. What a blessing it is to teach them not only academically but spiritually as well!
Why did you start homeschooling?
We are homeschooling because we want to customize our 5 year old son's education to him at the level he is at. He is about 2nd grade reading level, is behind in other areas. We also want to instill Christian values in his life and be his primary influence. We are so excited to start :) I am grateful for MACHE as we have gotten so much help and direction so far:) Would love to win this!!!
why we homeschool
We started homeschooling because we felt it was the best available educational option for our firstborn. Our son was an early reader and we wanted his education to be at his level, not other children's. It's been a blessing to be able to incorporate our Christian values and beliefs as part of our day as well. And now, our second child is ready to start kindergarten this fall! I'm both excited and nervous at teaching both my boys, but am trusting God that this is what He wants us to do.
We love MACHE and it would be great to win a year's membership!
Why
We started homeschooling primarily for the purpose of passing our beliefs down to our children. However, we come up with more great reasons every day!

Why We Started Homeschooling
Because I seem to end up doing the very things I say I would NEVER do... ha. We started homeschooling because God showed us it was the best path for our family.
Why I started Homeschooling....
Well, we started homeschooling 5 years ago because my husband asked me to try it. So I agreed (after countless hours of research) to try it, but only for a year! ;) I had no idea that we were not making an alternative educational choice because we couldn't afford Christian school, but we were moving to a different lifestyle. A lifestyle that understands that "education" is not the accumulation of knowledge, but the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom. It's a lifestyle that most fully allows us to live out the commands in scripture to train up our children in the way they should go, as well as answering the call of Deut 6. As a side bonus, I get to stare my sin in the face every day and allow the Lord to mold me into a more patient, organized person. :)
Why I Homeschooled
We began the homeschooling journey because we weren't ready to send our daughter off to kindergarten - we wanted more time with her, before we sent her off for the whole day! As time flew by, we faced financial difficulties and set-backs, but we just kept wanting time with our wonderful daughter. She was and is a precious gift from God and even though we have faced challenges, we wouldn't trade the special times we've had as a family because we homeschool. No amount of extra income would have meant as much to us as the time we've had educating, laughing, learning, and enjoying our time with our daughter. This year will be our 10th year of homeschooling - Praise God!
Thank you
Thank you everyone for posting! It was very encouraging to read everyone's stories. We hope to do more give aways in the future.
