John Tuma

John Tuma and his wife Wendy live in Northfield, Minnesota, with their two children. They met while John was in law school and Wendy was working as a legal secretary. John’s career began as an attorney for a firm in the Northfield area. In 1991, he opened his own solo practice and Wendy stepped in to assist him. John entered the political arena in 1994, when he was elected State Representative for their district, and he served in office for four consecutive terms. As a Representative, John had the honor of chairing the Crime Prevention Committee and was one of the chief authors of the state’s terrorist bill developed as a result of the September 11 terrorist attack. John remains active at the Capitol as a lobbyist. John’s and Wendy’s desire to give their children a Biblical foundation and to be involved in their education, as well as their need for a flexible schedule in order to spend time together as a family, led them to homeschool their children. John and Wendy have served on the MACHE Board since 2002.  Both feel God has called them to be a part of this ministry to homeschooling families. John has a deep desire to use his God-given gifts and legal training to assist homeschooling families understand the law and legislation. His struggle with dyslexia since his youth has also given him a heart for parents with special needs children.
