Preventing and Teaching Struggling Readers and Spellers

Reading and spelling are complex skills. Many children have become discouraged by oversimplifications, such as “S” says /s/. In reality “S” says /z/ 70% of the time, including simple words like “is”. Others struggle with visual muscle memory, or are auditory and kinesthetic learners. This workshop lays the foundations for teaching literacy to all students, aids teachers in selecting reading curriculum, and helps teachers guard their students’ hearts from discouragement.
