WILLIAM CAREY (1761 - 1834), the "Father of Modern Missions" was born in England. He mastered 6 languages before he was 20. He joined the Baptist Church at 22 and eventually organized the English Baptist Missionary Society. He was one of the society's first missionaries to India. Carey translated the Bible into forty-four languages.
