JONATHAN EDWARDS (1703 - 1758) was one of the most celebrated metaphysical writers that America has ever produced. Among his works is "On the Freedom of the Will", published in 1754 while Edwards was serving as a missionary to Indians. Edwards fought for what he knew to be right and was once ostracized from a church for his stand on infant baptism. Edwards was educated at Yale and served as President of Princeton from January, 1758 to March, 1758. His untimely death was due to a smallpox epidemic.
