CHARLES FINNEY (1792-1875) Charles FInney was a lawyer in upstate New York. One day he was reading Blackstone's Commentary on Law, he was puzzled by the references to the Mosaic Law. This caused him to purchase a Bible, and he was saved as he read it. He began traveling the east coast as an evangelist, and eventually affiliated himself with the presbytery. Toward the end of his life he served as president of Oberlin College, Ohio. Over 500,000 people responded to his public invitation to accept Christ.
