COMMUNITY EVENT: One Day Writing Workshop for Grades 4-8

This one-day workshop is for students in grades 4-8 who…
…are “reluctant writers” (maybe even despise writing!)
…are “rambling writers” (I could go on and on… )
…have an aversion to grammar
…need motivation and tools to become confident, independent writers (through middle school, high school, and beyond…)

Four elements of this workshop:
1. Grammar (The point: to communicate more powerfully!)
2. Descriptive writing (You’ll be amazed by what they produce!)
3. Writing for information (Ssshh. Don’t use the word “essay” until they realize it’s just a simple formula they’ve already been using that day.)
4. FUN!!

Power Writing is a sequential process that begins with a word, then moves to phrases, then to sentences, then to paragraphs, and finally to multi-paragraph essays. The system’s numerical structure provides the basis for all forms of writing. It solves the writer’s frequent problem of what to say, how to say it, and in what order.
